SUPER-TRUCK

If Spiderman was a trucker, this is the big-rig he'd drive.

The International Lonestar is a stunning new road-train guaranteed to turn heads on the highway - whether it has a superhero behind the wheel or not.

Featuring an eye-catching web-style front grille, the 18-wheeler from US trucking giant Navistar is set to lead the way as a next-generation haulage vehicle.

Not only does it have advanced ride and handling, it boasts a luxurious and functional suite interior that rivals many offices and living rooms.

Inside the sleeper cab is a wood floor, a pull-down bed with a 42-inch mattress and a mini-refrigerator.

Other interior highlights include swivel chairs; closed "airline" cabinets for maximum storage, monsoon stereo system with 11 speakers, and workspaces to plug in laptop computers and work in a desk-like setting.

Amazingly, despite its hulking appearance, the Lonestar is claimed to be up to 15 percent more fuel efficient than classic trucks - an important factor when each fill-up can cost more than $1,000.

"In an average week, a truck driver may spend 120 hours in his or her truck - driving, eating, sleeping, running a business, even entertaining friends," said David Allendorph, chief designer for Navistar's Truck Group. "We designed the LoneStar's environment to be both highly functional and comfortable. No other truck's interior delivers the style, comfort and practicality we have built into the LoneStar."

"Our customers told us they want three things: A truck that makes a statement about the driver, comfort on the road whether working or resting, and the combination of fuel economy and serviceability that helps them make more money," said Dee Kapur, president, Navistar Truck Group. "LoneStar delivers on all accounts. Now, drivers don't have to compromise. They can have it all - looks, efficiency, comfort, functionality and productivity."

Prices are yet to be announced for the LoneStar but orders can be placed in North America from April 2008.
