JESUS BATTLES THE TRANSFORMERS

While Transformers and Bratz dolls are the must-have toys this summer - children may soon be clutching a new range of wholesome plastic figures based on Bible stories.

A set of toys including a 12in talking Jesus, a bearded Moses and a muscle-bound figure of Goliath are being stocked by Wal-Mart, the largest toy retailer in the US.

The Tales of Glory range are part of what manufacturer One2believe call "the battle for the toy box" and represent a backlash against dolls and action figures that offer unwholesome themes of violence and sexuality.

The range of 21 Christian dolls include many favourite Bible characters and scenes, and each toy comes with a book to explain its story.

David Socha, from manufacturers One2believe, said: "We are aware of the influence that toys have on our young children's impressionable minds, so we would like to see more God-honouring options available.

"I think parents are dying for something for their young child that they can give them that they know is going to give them a positive image.

"What's nice is that they're real, as opposed to other superheroes that are out there. Kids can relate to people who didn't have superhuman powers, but relied on God's strength."

The Godly action figures - priced between $8 - $25 - are on sale in U.S. Wal-Mart stores.
