Love them or loathe them wind turbines have now become a common sight in some parts of the country. Rising energy costs and an increasing focus on environmental issues mean that the race is on to find cleaner and more efficient energy sources. One of these is wind power, which currently produces around 1% of world-wide electricity use. However, the siting of wind farms has proven to be a controversial issue with wind turbine detractors claiming they are a blot on the landscape, being both visually intrusive and noisy. On the other hand, their supporters tout wind turbines as an effective way to produce plentiful, renewable, and clean energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and displacing the need for fossil-fuel-derived electricity.
