Fifty years ago this year the original Irish twinkle toes, Michael Flatley, was born. The Irish step dancer rocketed to fame in the 90s after helping co-create the choreography for dancing phenomenon Riverdance. He then produced, directed, and choreographed his own critically acclaimed show, Lord of the Dance, and put together the dance production Feet of Flames. His current Irish dance show is Celtic Tiger. As a youngster, Flatley began dancing lessons at 11 and became the first non-European resident to win the All-Ireland World Championship for Irish dance. The multi-talented performer also is a proficient flautist who has twice won the All-Ireland Competition. And after being quoted as saying “I will be a dancer until the day I die”, it looks like there could be another 50 years of performing to come.
