London's iconic red buses are recognised the world over, even if the traditional Routemaster buses, with an open rear platform and on-board conductor to collect fares, have been phased out. However, these do still run on certain heritage routes. More common on the roads throughout London today are buses of the articulated double-length variety – or ‘bendy buses’ as they are known. Over 5 million bus trips are made each weekday and with over 700 different routes visitors can guarantee that they are never far from a bus.
