With ‘green’ the new current buzzword households up and down the country have been doing their bit for the environment by diligently sorting out their rubbish for recycling. However, speculation over just where this rubbish ends up has prompted the Local Government Association (LGA) to say that a "crackdown" on firms contracted by councils, who refuse to reveal where they send the waste, is needed. The LGA has written to council leaders urging them to obtain detailed information about where recycled items are sold or sent after some reports suggested that recyclables are ending up as far a field as India and China.
