Emmerdale, known as Emmerdale Farm until 1989, is a British soap opera that has aired on ITV 1 since 1972. It follows the lives and loves of the residents of the fictional village of Emmerdale (known as Beckindale until 1994) in West Yorkshire, England.
In June 2008, Emmerdale celebrated its 5000th episode.
