Despite ever more studies and polls revealing the true extent of booze Britain and the toll it takes both economically, physically and socially on the population, binge drinking remains firmly entrenched as many Britons’ favourite past time. Campaigners have called for everything from stopping supermarkets selling cheap alcohol to getting pubs and clubs to face more responsibility for the amount consumed by their patrons. The government has even recently launched a series of campaigns; one which educates people on how many units they should be drinking and another that shows graphic scenes of young people smearing themselves with vomit, injuring themselves and smashing up their homes. Whether messages like these will be listened to remains to be seen; in the meantime the great alcohol debate rages on.
