It’s time to bid a fond farewell to analog TV. The days of picture and sound being carried on electromagnetic waves are now numbered with a young upstart rearing its head – digital TV. In the U.S the great switch off will take place on 12 June, with the quiet demise of analog as the signal system is turned off and stations switch to digital signals only. In the UK the switchover is a more sedate affair, which will see the country’s switch happen bit by bit until the move to digital is finally completed in 2012. In order to still be able to surf those channels, households that haven’t already gone digital will either have to buy a new TV, purchase a converter box or start enjoying radio.
