Bette Davis was born Ruth Elizabeth Davis on 5 April 1908 in Massachusetts.

She began her film career in the early 1930's and by th 1940's she was the highest-paid woman in America. Her screen roles changed the way Hollywood looked at actresses, playing liberated and powerful women in an industry dominated by men.

Over the course of her career she was nominated for an amazing 10 Best Actress Oscars and won twice for 'Jezebel' and 'Dangerous'
